The Goal

Type 1 diabetes introduces children, youth, and families to a new reality, one that can make some kids feel different from their friends. A diagnosis also brings with it a whole new set of skills to learn, including testing blood glucose (sugar) levels, priming needles for injection, and counting the daily intake of carbs. Many young people often find themselves being the only person at their school or in their community with diabetes and it can be challenging to accept a diagnosis.

D-Camps are medically supervised summer camps for kids living with type 1 diabetes that foster inclusion and create a sense of belonging for campers. The goal of D-Camps is to instill an atmosphere of inclusivity, where campers gain a new level of independence in managing their type 1 diabetes and feel empowered to continue using the healthy practices they learn. Diabetes Canada provides subsidies each year to ensure all children with type 1 diabetes can attend camp regardless of financial circumstances.

Join us for Calgary’s first ever Pump Couture Fashion Show and help us reach out goal of raising $60,000 to support sending 24 children and youth to Diabetes Canada’s D-Camps program. The event will welcome over 200 guests at Mount Royal University, the university that was awarded the Ashoka Changemaker Campus designation, joining 44 universities which are leading higher education in the area of social innovation and changemaking.

Mix and mingle with friends, colleagues and our models during our cocktail hour, featuring light food and beverages, interactive entertainment, live music and more. The Fashion Show, featuring emcee Dr. Peter Senior, BMedSci, MBBS, PhD, will leave you inspired and cheering on the models who are living with diabetes as they bravely share their stories while wearing unique fashion from Canadian designers.

All funds raised will help send kids from your community to Diabetes Canada D-Camps, Camp Jean Nelson, located in the picturesque Rocky Mountain Foothills, just outside of Water Valley.
