Ending Stigma For People Living With Diabetes

Despite how common it is, people living with diabetes continue to face stigma and discrimination in their everyday lives. Diabetes, regardless of type or situation, often comes with blame. People living with diabetes are two to three times more likely to live with depression, and people living with both diabetes and depression are at a greater risk of adverse depression-related complications.

THE FACES

Featuring models of all shapes, sizes, backgrounds, and identities living with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, Pump Couture will not only showcase fashion, but will highlight the models’ stories and experiences living with diabetes to bring visibility to an “invisible condition” - not apparent at first glance. Diabetes knows no boundaries - affecting children, minorities, and the elderly.

THE FASHION

The event will feature unique clothing from across Canada, fashioned in a fun and innovative way with the models’ wearable technologies (insulin pumps and advanced glucose monitors). The models will radiate with confidence while bringing awareness to diabetes.
