What is Free to Move?

On Wednesday, September 26, Diabetes Canada is challenging BC's workforce to get active and take part in Free to Move - a workplace wellness initiative you don't want to miss out on.  Register your company, your team or fly solo; donate $10 to receive a campaign wristband, and start planning your active adventures.  You'll also get access to awesome perks at local businesses by proudly showing your wristband on-the-day!

Is there a registration fee?

No, but each participant is required to donate a minimum of $10 to their company fundraising page in order to receive their wristband.

How do I register?

Click here to register.  Once you've completed all the steps you can personalize your company fundraising page (which we definitely recommend) then encourage your co-workers to click the "donate button" to join your team.  You will all receive your wristbands in time for the day!

When will I receive my wristband?

All campaign kits, including your all-important wristbands, will be sent by mail closer to the day.  Don't worry, we won't leave you hanging too long - after all, they hold the power to all of those awesome perks!

How do I manage online donations?

Share your company fundraising page amongst co-workers and encourage them to sign-up.  Once they do, their names and donations will appear on your company page automatically.  You can also see a full list of donors in your participant centre.

Can my company match donations?

Absolutely!  We understand a lot of companies have a matching policy which is incredible.  Donations can be made to your company fundraising page or by cheque.

Can I make a donation if I am not participating?

We understand not everyone can take part, but you can definitely still donate.  Either search for your company page or click the "Make a General Donation" button on the home page to make a general donation.

Can I collect cash or cheque donations?

Please do not put cash in the mail.  If you receive cash donations, write a cheque to include your name and/or company name, and make it payable to Diabetes Canada.  Don't forget to attach a donation form with a full list of the donors' contact information and amounts so that each donor is receipted accordingly.

Cheques can be mailed to:

When is the deadline to register my workplace?

There is no registration deadline, but we encourage you to sign-up before Friday, September 14 to ensure your campaign kit arrives in time. Reach out to Kirstie McRae at 604-732-2311 if it's after September 14 and she will help you get sorted!

Can I register as an individual?

Of course!  Anyone can take part, as long as you're doing something to better your health.

Will I receive a tax receipt?

Your $10 donation gives you access to some awesome complimentary and discounted perks.   However due to Canada Revenue Agency regulations when the donor receives something in return for their donation (even if you don't use them i.e. complimentary perks), the charity is unable to issue a tax receipt.  If you have any questions about CRA regulations, please visit their website or contact us directly at 604-732-2311.

What if my office can't get active as a team?

Don't sweat it.  Take part any time, or any way that suits you and your company.  Just remember to sign-up online, make your donations and get active!

What is a perk and how do I receive them?

We're excited to be working with some fantastic local businesses across BC.  Visit our Perks Partner page for more information!

Where does my money go?

With your generous donations, we can continue to transform diabetes awareness, prevention and care to help End Diabetes for millions of people.  Your donations do an incredible amount, like sending children with type 1 to camp and fund groundbreaking research for a cure.  Check out our Impact page for more information.
