On November 17th our son Tristan was unexpectedly diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. As you can imagine, this shook our world beyond belief. Knowing nothing about Type 1, we were wracking our brains on what we could have done differently to help him avoid this condition. We have since learnt, the answer is absolutely nothing. It is autoimmune and through a combination of predisposition, a virus, and bad luck, his pancreas was shut off and no longer produces insulin.
Tristan has inspired us through his determination, resilience, and motivation to thrive with this condition. As technology and medical breakthroughs advance we are hopeful there will be improvements for less invasive treatment and ultimately a cure in his lifetime.
I used to run races for fitness, mental fitness, and overcoming injury. Now my newfound purpose is to raise awareness and funds for research for diabetes. On March 30th 2025 I am running the Around the Bay 30km race and have a goal to raise $2500.
Please join me if you feel inspired in this quest for raising awareness and research for this cause.
Thank you for your support, every ounce makes a difference.
