D'arci (Spruce Grove, AB)

Long-time Lacer D'arci hosted a community walk in her hometown of Spruce Grove, Alta., last year! She Laces Up in honour of her grandfather who lived with type 2 diabetes.

Did you know that in the past 10 years, Alberta experienced the largest increase in diabetes prevalence among the provinces? Alberta is projected to see the largest increase again over the next 10 years.


Merlin (Paradise, NL)

Last September, Merlin Laced Up in honour of his younger brother who passed due to complications with diabetes at age 40. He completed the 100k Challenge by walking throughout the month.

Did you know that Newfoundland and Labrador have a higher rural population than the national average? For people living with diabetes, accessing care is more challenging in rural areas across Canada than in urban centres.


Talia (Georgetown, ON)

Talia lives with type 1 diabetes. She Laced Up last year to help reduce the stigma that people living with diabetes face. She completed the 200k Challenge in September with a combination of walking, running, and cycling.

Did you know that people living with diabetes in Ontario continue to face high out-of-pocket costs to manage their diabetes effectively? This is largely due to high public drug program deductibles, a lack of public funding for diabetes devices, essential diabetes supplies, and limits on coverage through private plans.


Warren (Winnipeg, MB)

Warren's daughter Kate was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in the fall of 2021. Last September, he Laced Up to walk 1 kilometre for every $10 he raised throughout the month!

Did you know that Manitoba has the highest prevalence of type 2 diabetes among children across Canada? First Nations children are disproportionately affected, representing over 80% of diagnosed cases.
