FAQ

Thank you for choosing to stand with thousands of Canadians as a part of Bowl to Strike Out Stigma. Below are a few of the most frequently asked questions.

Can I take part without fundraising?

This is a fundraising campaign so it’s central to what we are trying to achieve to Strike Out Stigma. Across the country, Diabetes Canada staff is ready to help you every step of the way to be successful at fundraising. Just ask and we will be there for you, email bowling@diabetes.ca.

What if I don’t fundraise the minimum amount?

There is no minimum fundraising amount. To help you fundraise, Diabetes Canada staff is ready to help every step of the way to be successful at fundraising. Just ask and we will be there for you, email bowling@diabetes.ca.

Will Diabetes Canada pay my expenses related to the bowling as I am fundraising for you, e.g. bowling expenses or rental of equipment for other types of bowling?

While we offer prizes for people who achieve fundraising levels, specifically a retro bowling shirt for those who fundraise $250, teams need to cover the cost of their actual bowling activity.

Can I register offline?

You need to register online. If some donors prefer to donate by cash or cheque, there are instructions available for that on the website. If you need help with online registration or offline donations, email bowling@diabetes.ca or call 1-800-BANTING (226-8464).

Do I have to bowl in June? Can I do it in May or July?

You can bowl in May, June, July and into the first week of August. After that, we will be switching our fundraising activity and refreshing our online fundraising platform for a new activity. We will also accept sponsorship donations for you up until that time as well.

Why bowling?

Bowling is fun, easy, accessible and can be inexpensive if you choose a do-it-yourself option. Also, bowling has ‘strikes’ and our new logo has a strikethrough the word diabetes. So there’s a connection between bowling and Diabetes Canada.

Do I have to bowl? Can I do something else?

Bowling is the overall theme. If you want to do something else and fundraise, that’s perfectly fine.

The people I know aren’t comfortable donating online. Can they make cash or cheque donations?

Yes, donors can make cash or cheque donations. There are instructions on how to submit these in your participant centre fundraising toolkit which you will find when you register online.

I’d like to participate but I don’t know people who could sponsor me. What should I do?

There are many creative ways to ask and we have shared a few tips, tricks and tools to help you get started. Take a look in the fundraising toolkit at BowlforDiabetes.ca or email bowling@diabetes.ca. We are happy to give you advice to help you.

If I raise $250 and qualify for a bowling shirt, how long does it take to get delivered?

You can expect about 2-3 weeks for delivery of shirt from the time you order it.
