When Lisa was 35 years old, both she and her eight-year-old daughter were diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, this came as a huge shock for them as they were diagnosed within two days of each other.
“It was a whirlwind time for our family, she was getting discharged from the PICU, while I was getting admitted at the ER. While the diagnosis was devastating, it was a silver lining for both of us to be able to lean on each other over the years. It was great to have someone else who truly understands what it’s like to live with diabetes. We are looking forward to celebrating our 20 year “diaversary” next year!”
Lisa is modelling in the Pump Couture Fashion Show to raise awareness and to break the stigma that surrounds diabetes.
Lisa is raising funds for D-Camps, a program that she has been a strong supporter of, especially since her daughter attended D-Camp for many years.
“It was life-changing for her to be with other kids with the same chronic condition, to not be the odd one out when she needed to count carbs and inject or bolus. She always came home with new skills and confidence in managing her own diabetes. She was able to look up to the staff and counsellors, many of whom also live with diabetes.”
Show your support and help Lisa reach her fundraising goal to send more kids to D-Camps.
