Lesley was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was 14 years old. Three years later, her brother was diagnosed with the same condition. This was challenging for the family, but they got through it together with the help of their health support teams,
Lesley decided to take use her diagnosis as an opportunity to became a strong advocate for people living with diabetes, and even completed three marathons with Team Diabetes.
She is modelling in the Pump Couture fashion show because she thinks that it’s another opportunity to help educate people on diabetes and help to erase some of the stigma that unfortunately still surrounds it.
“I want to raise awareness about diabetes devices and technologies and help to educate people that you don’t grow out of it. I also want to show that type 1 diabetes is not a result of diet or exercise, that your diagnosis is not your fault and most importantly people of all sizes and ages have diabetes.”
Lesley is raising funds for D-Camps. While she didn’t attend, in her own words, she “fully supports D-Camps” and knew from childhood the value a specialized diabetes camp experience could provide.
Show your support and help Lesley reach her fundraising goal to send more kids to D-Camps.
