Macey was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on October 14, 2018, at the tender age of 2. Although she was very young and doesn't remember much about how her life changed, she knew that the doctors were helping her feel better. For her family, however, it was an incredibly scary time. They had to adapt to a completely new way of living, but fortunately, they had an amazing community to support them through the transition. Even now, it remains a challenge.
One of the biggest challenges Macey faces is not being able to eat whatever she wants without thinking about it. She wishes people knew that those with diabetes can eat a variety of foods just like everyone else. Her advice to someone newly diagnosed or struggling is simple yet powerful: “Just be yourself and don't let people bully you.”
Macey is modeling in the Pump Couture Fashion Show to help bring more kids to D-Camps. She has attended D-Camp twice, and it has been important for her because it helped her learn to give herself insulin and make friends. When she grows up, Macey dreams of becoming a doctor, model, or hair stylist. She also dreams of going to Disney, even though she knows it will be challenging to manage her diet with all the sugary foods there.
Please show your support by helping Macey reach her fundraising goal to send more kids to D-Camps!
