Fifteen years ago, Arlen was diagnosed with diabetes—a journey that was both overwhelming and eye-opening. While his experience taught him the importance of healthy living and resilience, he often reflects on how much harder it would have been to face this diagnosis as a child.
For many children living with type 1 diabetes, everyday life is filled with challenges that most of us never have to think about—counting every bite they eat, managing blood sugar levels, and facing the isolation that can come with being "different." Arlen understands just how vital it is for these kids to have a space where they can feel included, understood, and free to simply be children, where their needs are being met physically and emotionally so they too can live a fulfilling life.
That’s why Arlen is raising funds for D-Camps, summer camps designed specifically for kids living with the realities of type 1 diabetes. These camps provide more than just fun activities—they create a community where kids can connect with others who truly understand their struggles. At D-Camps, children gain the confidence to manage their condition, the comfort of knowing they’re not alone, and the joy of making lifelong memories.
“For kids with type 1 diabetes, D-Camps are life-changing,” says Arlen. “I can’t imagine navigating this disease as a child and being left out of activities that bring together human connection, our greatest hierarchy of needs. These camps allow kids to just be kids—to feel included, safe, empowered, and supported in ways that matter deeply.”
Arlen is sharing his story at the Pump Couture Fashion Show to raise awareness and inspire others to join him in this cause. As he models on stage, his message is clear: diabetes doesn’t have to define your life, and every child deserves the chance to thrive.
Arlen knows firsthand how much this diagnosis can bring change - for the GOOD. Thanks to his diagnosis, he has taken charge of his mental and physical health. But his journey hasn’t been easy, and he wants to make sure no child feels like they have to face diabetes alone
You can make a difference. Donating to Arlen’s campaign gives kids with diabetes the chance to experience the joy, connection, and empowerment that D-Camps offers. You’re helping them see that their diagnosis does not define them and that they’re part of a supportive, understanding, and welcoming community.
Let’s make this summer unforgettable for these kids - we can send 10 kids to D-Camps if you help me reach my goal this year.
Please contribute today to help Arlen reach his goal and send more children to D-Camps. Every donation—no matter the size—brings us one step closer to giving these kids the childhood they deserve.
Together, we can create a brighter, more hopeful future for kids with diabetes. Let’s show them they’re never alone.
