Chantelle was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at BrightShores Hospital in Southampton, ON, when she was 8 years old. After being sent to the pediatric unit in Owen Sound, she and her parents learned how to manage her diabetes.
Chantelle loves competitive dance (Acro, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Contemporary, and Jazz), coloring, drawing, hanging out with friends, and swimming. Physical activity can be challenging, often causing lows during dance, swimming, gymnastics, and trampoline sessions.
She wishes people knew that type 1 and type 2 diabetes aren't the same. Chantelle wants to be in the Pump Couture Fashion Show because she loves fashion and wants to help other kids attend D-Camp.
Her parents are proud of how Chantelle has learned to manage her diabetes and want her to meet others to build her confidence. Chantelle has attended D-Camp twice, where she met other kids with diabetes.
Chantelle is proud of her friends for learning about type 1 diabetes and helping her when needed. She dreams of becoming a teacher or pet sitter. Last summer, she traveled to Newfoundland with her family, managing her diabetes while hiking and flying with a diabetes device for the first time.
Show your support by helping Chantelle raise awareness and support for the diabetes community!
