Sukhman was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes shortly before immigrating to Canada. Adjusting to a new country and managing a complex medical condition was overwhelming but discovering Diabetes Canada early on provided crucial support and resources.
With the help of an incredible endocrinologist, Dr. Alice Cheng, Sukhman learned to manage diabetes while respecting cultural traditions. This journey taught resilience and the importance of community. Today, Sukhman is healthier and more confident, enjoying activities like watching TV and cooking with family.
Balancing cultural traditions with diabetes management was a significant challenge, but with support, Sukhman found ways to modify recipes and educate family members. Wearing a diabetes device has provided greater flexibility and control over blood sugar levels, despite occasional challenges.
Sukhman is proud to be a certified diabetes educator and nurse specialist, advocating for better resources and support systems in the diabetes community. Modeling in the Pump Couture Fashion Show is a way to raise awareness and funds for D-Camps, helping others feel empowered and supported.
Show your support by helping Sukhman raise awareness and support for the diabetes community!
Thank you for your support.
