Alyssa was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1999. As a teenager gaining independence, this diagnosis was a shock and a challenge. Each day is a learning experience, making her appreciate and prioritize healthy lifestyle choices.
Alyssa enjoys cooking, baking, exercise (resistance training, hiking, pilates), and spending time with family. She faces challenges like feeling different from friends, planning daily activities, and managing glucose levels. Despite these, she has learned not to sweat every "bad" number and to embrace fluctuations as part of managing diabetes.
Alyssa used to own a restaurant and lived in Costa Rica. She is proud of becoming a mom and having a successful pregnancy with a healthy baby girl, thanks to technology. She loves traveling and doesn't let diabetes impact her plans, always prepared with backup supplies and snacks.
Alyssa is modeling in the Pump Couture Fashion Show to raise awareness, normalize devices, and connect with the type 1 diabetes community.
