Nora was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on January 16, 2023. The diagnosis was a significant adjustment for Nora and her family as they had to learn how to manage her diabetes around daily activities and meals. Nora's ability to focus is sometimes affected when her blood sugar levels are not in range, causing blurred vision or shakiness.
Nora enjoys playing hockey, applying make-up, styling her hair, and playing with her dogs. One of the challenges she faces is dealing with negative comments from classmates who don't understand diabetes.
"Some people think it's simple, yet it's not an easy medical condition to manage," Nora says. She has met some great people with diabetes who use the same devices as her, reminding her that she is not alone.
Nora loves fashion and supporting her diabetes community. She appreciates the opportunities to participate in fun activities like her diaversary and the fashion show.
One of Nora's proudest moments was winning the Esso medal for the "Most Dedicated" hockey player on her Metro West Force U9 hockey team. Her name and Esso medal are on display in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.
Nora dreams of becoming a professional hockey player for the PWHL. On March 15, 2024, her family traveled to Toronto to watch a Toronto Maple Leafs hockey game and met her idol, Max Domi, in person.
