Neve was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2, so she doesn't remember much about it. Her diagnosis came the day after her mom's birthday and just two weeks before her baby sister was born. This significant event affected her family greatly, as they had to learn about carb counting, managing highs and lows, and more.
Neve enjoys reading, drawing, baking, and karate. She also loves planning special random events, like throwing a party for her sister for no particular reason.
At school, teachers who don't know she has diabetes sometimes ask her to put away her "phone," not realizing it's her medical device.Neve wants people to know that diabetes is not defined by the medical devices she wears.
One challenge Neve faces is that her devices can sometimes rip off during sports, and kids might poke at them. Despite these challenges, she believes it gets better and that someday she will feel stronger. She wants to raise awareness because many people don't know how scary diabetes can be. It's a tricky disease to live with, but she wants others to know that you can still do anything you want to.
This year, Neve started managing her diabetes at school on her own, which is a significant achievement. She dreams of becoming a singer one day. Last winter, her family went to Palm Springs, which was a lot of fun. However, traveling with diabetes can be tricky because they always have to have her medical supply bag searched at the airport, which she finds annoying.
