Ashley was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on September 23, 2024—just a short time ago. The diagnosis turned her life upside down, but her fiancé and kids have been incredibly supportive, learning everything alongside her. It was a scary start, as she was diagnosed while in DKA and had to be hospitalized. Day-to-day life has changed, and there are still some tears as it’s a lot to take in.
In the summer, Ashley loves being outdoors with her family, enjoying good books and binge-watching TV shows. In the winter, she bakes delicious treats, takes the kids sledding, and plays video games. Overcoming her fear of injections was tough, and for the first few weeks after her hospital discharge, her fiancé and coworkers helped with her injections.
Ashley is a self-proclaimed geek, excelling in Harry Potter and Game of Thrones trivia, and loves playing Dungeons & Dragons. Her office is decorated with D&D monsters.
Ashley is modeling in the Pump Couture Fashion Show to raise awareness and funds for D-Camps. She wants to help end the stigma around diabetes and bring awareness to its symptoms, hoping others can be diagnosed before reaching DKA. Although she hasn’t traveled far since her diagnosis, she plans to go to Mexico in the spring and is a bit worried about traveling with diabetes, but knows she’ll manage with her fiancé’s support.
