Nicki was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 9 years old. She believes mental health in diabetes needs more attention and wants to share her story to highlight these struggles.
Nicki struggles daily with the mental toll of diabetes. As a "brittle" person with diabetes, her blood glucose values fluctuate widely, impacting her body and emotions. While technology helps, it doesn't make diabetes easier—just different.
Nicki works in a chronic disease clinic, showing newly diagnosed kids and families her diabetes devices. She emphasizes that a diabetes diagnosis isn't a deathsentence. Nicki has a career, two kids, plays sports, parties, and goes to the gym often. She believes it's important to hear about diabetes from someone who lives with it.
Nicki faces challenges with sleep due to compression lows and constant alarms. She wants to raise awareness that people with diabetes can do everything people without the disease can do with smart planning and management.
Nicki is modeling in the Pump Couture Fashion Show to raise awareness and funds for D-Camps. Although she never attended D-Camps due to a waitlist, she understands their importance for children with diabetes. She hopes her story will inspire others and help send more kids to D-Camps.
Please show your support by helping Nicki reach her fundraising goal to send more kids to D-Camps!
