Diabetes Canada (formerly Canadian Diabetes Association) is a registered charity that has been helping Canadians since 1953. There are 11 million Canadians and 1.2 million Albertans currently directly affected by diabetes - a chronic, often debilitating, and sometimes fatal disease. Complications of diabetes include heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, blindness and loss of limb.
Diabetes Canada is working hard to discover a cure while also preventing the onset and consequences of the disease, and helping those directly affected to live healthy lives. We fund ground-breaking research throughout the country including the Julia McFarlane Chair in Diabetes Research currently held by Dr. Pere Santamaria right here in Alberta! We also publish the Clinical Practice Guidelines used by all Canadian physicians in the treatment and prevention of diabetes. Our D-Camps are a phenomenal opportunity for youth living with type 1 diabetes; for many attendees these camps are life changing as the campers are able to learn valuable life skills for coping with the daily struggles involved with this disease while enjoying a summer camp experience with other children who deal with the same issues.
Your fundraising efforts could help send a child to camp Jean Nelson this summer! Please call Robin at 403-266-0620 extension 1104 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to learn more about how you can get involved.
