Launched in August 2019, Woolley’s Warriors – a nonprofit founded by Mark Woolley – hopes of conquering diabetes with support and awareness for young athletes living every day with Type 1.
Mark, an Ontario Hockey League (OHL) defenceman currently playing for the Owen Sound Attack, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 12. Mark’s older brother, Matt, has had diabetes since birth, giving the Woolley parents the foundation to notice the same symptoms in Mark. Hockey had already become a huge part of Mark’s life, but it didn’t take long to learn that if he could manage diabetes properly, and take care of his health, it wouldn’t be a factor and he could still play the game he loves. Now, Mark has the goal to send kids to Diabetes Canada D-Camps, giving them the opportunity to learn how to live their lives with diabetes, while still living the life that they love.
