Every 3 minutes, a person in Canada is diagnosed with diabetes. Diabetes is not slowing down and, in 2022 it was estimated that 152,000 New Brunswickers, or 19% of the population, were living with diagnosed and undiagnosed diabetes, a figure that rose to 274,000 (35%) when including prediabetes.
Having spent the last half of my nursing career working as a Diabetes Educator/Case Manager I am extremely aware of the challenges and barriers people living with and affected by diabetes are faced with every day as they struggle to self-manage this complex disease and prevent the onset of complications. I have also spent over 20 years as an active volunteer with the Professional Section of Diabetes Canada, doing what I could to support their mission to prevent diabetes and its complications; helping people with diabetes live healthy lives; and working to find a cure and I am continuing to support the work done by Diabetes Canada in my retirement by "Lacing Up" with the River Striders (WOW) team in September.
Every dollar raised helps fund education, support services, advocacy and diabetes research that could lead to the next big medical breakthrough.
Please show your support by helping me reach my fundraising goal. Check back often to see updates on my progress.
Thank you for cheering me on!
