We’re the employees of GMS Health & Travel Insurance. We’re very proud our company is national title sponsor of this year’s Lace up to End Diabetes campaign. Every day in our jobs, we help our customers live well, and our success as a company enables us to give back to enhance the health and well-being of our communities.
Diabetes or prediabetes affects 1 in 3 people across Canada, and 1 in 2 young adults will develop type 2 diabetes in their lifetime. Complications from diabetes can be serious and even life-threatening. That’s why we’ve established a staff team to support the Lace Up to End Diabetes campaign. A century ago, the discovery of insulin changed the lives of people with diabetes. We want to help make sure we don’t have to wait another 100 years to end diabetes.
Team GMS has a variety of fundraising activities for our Lace Up campaign, including raffles, a staff marketplace where we sell or auction goods and services, a bottle drive, food sales and a staff trivia competition.
Many of us have also committed to completing our virtual 10 kilometres of movement in September. We know how important physical activity is to overall health and wellbeing, including managing diabetes effectively. So we’re walking, running, biking, doing yoga or a class at the gym – whatever movement inspires us to Lace Up to complete 10k our way. A couple of our dedicated colleagues are even working to complete 100k during the month!
We’ve challenged ourselves to complete a minimum of 300k as a team – and hopefully more! Some of GMS’ corporate partners have committed to support our fundraising campaign based on our achieving this goal. Over the next few weeks, we’ll post our individual km achievements on our own pages. Some of us are doing individual fundraising as well, but we’re mainly focused on raising funds as a team.
We’ll also provide regular updates on the kilometres our team completes on this page, starting September 15. In return, we welcome your support in helping us reach our team fundraising goal. You can donate to Team GMS, or one of our individual team members. Your contributions will support Diabetes Canada in providing education, support services, advocacy and funding diabetes research that may just lead to the next big medical breakthrough.
September 30th: Team GMS has completed 2,559 kilometres!
Thank you for helping us bring an end to diabetes!
