Thanks for stopping by! I'll keep it brief...
Diabetes affects millions of Canadians. In 2018 almost 30% of the Canadian population was living with some form of diabetes and this number is on the rise. Diabetes also doesn't discriminate. In fact, I bet you know someone living with diabetes, and if you don't, you do now. I have been living with Type 1 diabetes for 5 years now and I've taken this opportunity to help others affected every way that I can. As a registered dietitian, I work with those who are newly diagnosed and also help those as they continue on their journey living with diabetes. I am also an advocacy member on behalf of Diabetes Canada and a regualr volunteer. A lot of hard work goes into managing diabetes from an individual perspective, all the way up to the systemic level.
In 2018 Diabetes Canada asked the federal government to support Diabetes 360, a national diabetes strategy that would support much needed research, save billions in health care costs, reduce the number cases of type 2 diabetes, and reduce the number of lower limb amputations. After the release of federal budget 2019, Diabetes Canada received $0 in support for this strategy. The direct cost of diabetes is just under $30 billion dollars, if the prevalence continues to grow at this rate, that dollar value will top $39 billion by 2028.
Long story short, we need your help! Please consider donating today to help us end the diabetes epidemic and reduce the strain on the health care system. It's easy, just click the support participant button at the top of the page.
Thank you so much for your generosity!!
